Anyone elses work shutting down all travel for Covid 19? My boss told me today they’re killing all non-essential travel as of this morning and this afternoon will decide whether or not to kill all travel period.
As of now I still have a trip to Cleveland leaving tomorrow 9am. In a couple hours I may be staying home for the week.
Im definitely not complaining as a week in Cleveland is not my favorite thing, but we’ve been planning this trip for months...
A sad puppy that very much did not enjoy her last Vet trip a couple weeks ago for your time. When a 115# dog is not happy and not behaving very well things get interesting. This is why I go to a vet that also does large animals, they’re very good at this
Please take me home now...

No restrictions here, but no travel for me would mean no income. Maybe we can pick up the pieces for companies who aren’t letting folks go on the road...

One co-workers husband is a regional salesman who drives everywhere and this week he is to stop traveling.
I’m concerned the panic is going to do far more damage than the disease.

So far my company is no travel to China or S Korea, limited travel to Japan, Italy and Iran. Domestic travel is same as normal.
We do manufacturing and have sales reps traveling all over the world constantly with China, Japan and S Korea being like 40% of our business. There are multiple trade shows we’re going to, some international ones have been postponed, but not domestic. So yeah we’re screwed.
But given COVIDs been circulating naturally in Seattle for like 6 weeks I’m not too concerned since - hey baby, if you can’t go to COVID, COVID is coming to you.

We only travel domestically (I work for a quasi-governmental agency) but this seems like an overreaction to me.
There is a trade show I was going to go to in a few weeks here (ISC West) but it’s looking like that won’t be happening, even hearing rumblings about it being canceled.

I am expecting restrictions in the next two weeks.

She was very unhappy, but normally loves the vet. She’s getting older though (turned 10 in January) so she can’t see or hear as well as she used to. Her moods also been a bi t erratic, Newfoundland rarely make it past 9 so we’re lucky already but I don’t imagine we have much longer with her.
This was her a few minutes later though. Trying to convince me she was fine and it was time to go home.

This one came out of the blue for me . Friday it was business as usual, first thing this morning non-essential travel canceled with a we’ll decide later today about canceling all maybe.

My dad is a limo driver. Most of his job is taking business clients to/from airports in the NYC and Philly metro areas. Things are already slowing down.

Definitely an overreaction, or at least a case where the costs outweigh the benefits.
Quarantines/restrictions/isolation only work well if everyone is separated, and everyone is participating (like a cartel).
If I were elderly or immune compromised, I could definitely get on board. But for most people, this seems silly.

I can definitely imagine jobs like that being hit hard when travel is dialed back.
Luckily I can to 99.9% of my job remotely - this trip was for that 0 .01% that requires physical presence so we’ll see.

My parents are scheduled to take a cruise for their 50th wedding anniversary. The trip leaves out of Miami next week and the state of Florida has just instituted a state of emergency. I’ve told them maybe to just skip the trip, but they are stubborn. Hopefully the trip will be canceled.
The idea of them trapped on a boat sounds real bad to me.

Same - I’m not worried about it. I can kind of see a bit of the global aspect of restricting travel though. If half the normal people that travel do so it can drastically slow the spread of it, possibly giving time for a vaccine/treatment to be developed.
Although with last week being the worst the stock market has had since 2008 it definitely does have me worrying some about lasting impacts.

I’m in IT so my job can be done pretty easily remotely. I don’t think we’ll likely ever go into a contingency mode unless it gets bad (we’re also in the midwest) but time spent WFH is good.
On a personal note - this is definitely putting a damp on the job hunting I’d been doing recently...

Have you seen the market today? Might just be a dead cat bounce, but several blue chips like Costco and Apple were up 6-8%.
I hope it keeps up or stabilizes, I’m still a believer that the markets are the best barometer of how things are being affected.

Hadn’t checked today - but Friday was the same with a meh day. Marketplace was calling it a ‘correction’ as of yet so that’s fine. A bad week on its own doesn’t bother me.

I put my wife on the plane this morning for her monthly client visit (continental US travel). Fortunately I was leaving late for work due to a local meeting, and could take her since the Uber availability was quieter than usual. A symptom of travel slowing down, maybe.
Next month I’m not so sure I want her being stuck in a flying metal petri dish.

I leave for Vegas next Monday for a conference. Should be interesting based on what happens in the next five days, and I expect turnout to be light if it’s not cancelled.
In all honesty, I’d rather get this earlier than later. From what I’ve read you can’t contract this specific strain a second time. Once recovered and no longer contagious, I’d be free to travel to Europe with impunity, at reduced rates!
(Not making light of the serious health and financial aspects of the epidemic, just trying to look at the positives)

It’s be interesting to see how many people have already gotten the virus and not even known it.

Ye ah this was a significantly less involved trip to the Caribbean, something my mother has always wanted to do, but that my father has never had any interest in. My guess is that he will be practicing his “I’m sorry we couldn’t go, honey” face a whole lot. I still feel badly for them as 50 years is a long time. And as my father is wont to say, marriage has been the best 43 or 44 years of his life.

For some reason I read Daytona beach even though that’s definitely not what you said...
California is drastically better than Cleveland plus riding a bike - sounds like and ideal vacation to me!
To be serious though the other trips were more on the glad-handing variety, mine I’m doing actual physical work so it cannot be done remotely.
